Hello there! You have found ampel! A small scale organisation set up by us (Nils and Luc) to develop and distribute free and open source software under one umbrella.
The Dutch word ampel is a cognate and homophone of the English word ample. Which emerged early on as an identifier for our package repositories; xbps-ample, apk-ample and portage-ample. Moreover, in Dutch ampel is a corruption of appel (apple).
Which brings us to our logo; the horn of plenty, or rather; the horn of ample. Obstructed by a solitary apple, symbolising our pursuit of minimalism and simplicity in our software, perhaps best captured by this Dutch proverb:
